Qur’an and Hifz.A portion a year.

Students memorize a set portion of the Qur’an each year, and our new Ijazah program began with our Grade 9 students.

The path

From first recitation to an Ijazah.

Qur’an at Huda Academy begins with learning to recite in Grade 1 and, for the students who go furthest, leads to an Ijazah.

  1. Qira’ah from Grade 1

Qira’ah, the study of Qur’an recitation, begins in Grade 1. Students learn to read the Qur’an correctly, following the rules of recitation known as tajweed. The Arabic in these classes is Qur’anic Arabic.

  2. A portion every year

Every grade has its own portion of the Qur’an to memorize over the school year, and the teacher tracks each student’s progress through it. Memorization is part of the curriculum for every child.

  3. The Hifz program

Alongside the regular Qur’an classes, the Hifz program is one of our enrichment programs, open to elementary and middle school students.

  4. The Ijazah program

Our Ijazah program began with Grade 9 in the 2026-27 school year. An Ijazah is a traditional certification: a qualified teacher, whose own recitation is certified in a chain of teachers going back to the Prophet, peace be upon him, hears a student recite and certifies them in turn.

Memorization

Memorization, grade by grade.

A portion for each grade

Each grade has a set portion of the Qur’an to memorize across the year. Because the portion belongs to the grade, every child is memorizing, whether or not they also join the Hifz program.

The Qur’an teacher tracks every student’s progress through that portion throughout the year.

Huffaz on our staff

Eleven people on our staff are huffaz. They have memorized the entire Qur’an.

Alongside Arabic

Memorization sits beside Arabic, which every child studies as a full subject from Kindergarten, including the Qur’anic Arabic used in the Qur’an and Qira’ah classes. The Arabic page explains how the two kinds of Arabic fit together.

The school will confirm

The portion each grade memorizes in a year, how progress is shared with parents, and the teacher bios for the Qur’an staff, with permission to publish them.

Why we began

…the need to establish a school that would excel in academics and provide an environment to nurture spiritual growth.

The evidence

A strong Qira’ah program, and what stands behind it.

We have one of the strongest Qira’ah programs in the nation, and children start reading from the Qur’an as early as Grade 1.Needs fixing

Our own line about our Qira’ah program, waiting for our confirmation before it is published.

Behind that claim are two things.

The first is our staff. Eleven of them are huffaz. The second is our Ijazah program, which began with Grade 9 in the 2026-27 school year and works toward the traditional certification of a student’s recitation.

Behind both is the ordinary school year: Qira’ah from Grade 1 and a portion of the Qur’an memorized by every grade. Students also take part in the Qur’an competition. Our other competitions are the science fair, the speech contest, the spelling bee and the Arabic spelling bee.

The school will confirm

Whether the school still wants to publish the “strongest Qira’ah programs in the nation” line, and any Qur’an competition results it would like to share.
